Ethel Trujillo (soprano) is from Morelos, Mexico. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Puebla, Mexico with a B.M. in Vocal Performance. Today she is a resident artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts.

Ethel’s highest achievements include winning first place and receiving the Pro-Opera Audience Award at the Carlo Morelli National Singing Contest in Bellas Artes, Mexico (2018). Furthermore, she has received honorable mentions at the International Lyric Singing Contest in Trujillo, Peru (2018), placed 3rd at the International Singing Contest of Sinaloa (2019), Semifinalist at the International Competition Alfredo Kraus in Spain (2019), 2nd place at the Linus Lerner Competition (2019), 2nd place at the Opera San Miguel Competition (2020), 1st place at the Gerda Lissner Foundation, Operetta & Zarzuela (2022), finalist at the Vincerò World Singing Competition in Verona, Italy (2023). Encouragement Award and District Winner at the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (2023, 2024), 3rd place at the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition (2023), and Encouragement Awards at the Mary Jacobs Smith Singer of the Year Competition (2023), Annapolis Opera Competition (2023) and Opera Index (2023).

Her roles include Violetta Valéry in Traviata, Musetta in La Bohème, Philine in Mignon, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor, Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Gilda in Rigoletto, Norina in Don Pasquale, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette, among others.

Her upcoming performances include Lucia in The Rape of Lucretia and Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Academy of Vocal Arts. Ethel joined the Glimmerglass Festival in the summer of 2023 where she was the cover of Juliette in Roméo et Juliette and she will return in 2024 to perform Furia and cover Calisto in La Calisto.

Ethel has taken master classes and private lessons with distinguished teachers such as Plácido Domingo, Elina Garanča, Javier Camarena, Luis Ledesma, Teresa Rodríguez, Carlos Aransay, Enrique Patron de Rueda, Ruth Ek Tun, Claudia Cota, among others.
